It is some time at night here, Weds evening. I think 10 PM but I am a little suspicious because the only clocks we can see are on our mobile devices and they have been flaky.
Which I think means it's 9:30 AM on Weds back in CA.
Between that and trying to convert rupees to dollars in my head (is 2800 rupees a good price for steamed rice? Turns out... no...) I am pretty confused.
We left town Monday afternoon. The big concern was making sure Michelle was comfortable on the plane: she's had a some serious back pain, and the first leg is 16 hours, SF to Dubai. We had been praying a lot about this, and we were geared up with pillows, ice packs, and a nearly criminal level of drugs.
I had prayed specifically that we'd get to sit next to an open seat, but it was one of those prayers where I felt like "yeah right" even as I prayed it.
In the holding area before the flight, we sat next to the flight crew as they were getting prepped for the flight. The chief flight attendant noticed me massaging Michelle's back and asked what's up. We told her, she said she'd see what she could do.
Turns out she got us a row of four seats all to ourselves. So, woo hoo answered prayer and then some. Michelle could stretch all the way out, had a fairly easy flight. No drugs needed at all.
Typical experience for me with extra long flights. No sleep, tons of TV and movies, kind of get loopy at some point, also physically just gross. Body, teeth, hair, everything starts to feel so nasty.
Landed in Dubai (airport was kind of underwhelming, I epxected opulence), short layover, short flight to Mumbai, arrived at 2ish in the AM. Maybe just the hour but it felt like the longest wait EVER at the baggage carousel. Cab ride to the Holiday Inn.
Holiday Inn was nice typical hotel room save one interesting feature, There's a curtain beside the bed and when it's up you can see through a glass wall into the shower, and from there into the rest of the bathroom. Best of all the curtain iscontrolled via a switch on the wall (in the bathroom) for an extra creepy peepshow like vibe.
Breakfast buffet in the morning at the hotel. Pretty much single handedly justfied the trip. Good stuff.
Long nap, headed over to our 'real' hotel, the Taj. Really nice. Got checked in, took a walk, got a massage and dinner (different places...).
Overall feeling super grateful to be here, and that the flight went so well!
